On Wednesday, October 18th at 11:26am, an earthquake shook the Spanish Springs area with a second quake in the same area on Wednesday at 12:43am.
The seismology lab at the University of Nevada, Reno says the quake was centered east of Sun Valley in the hills surrounding Foothill Meadows. These events were felt across the area, at a 3.5 magnitude with the second quaking at a 3.6 magnitude. These shakes were measured by the USGS that showed the earthquakes registered 6.5 miles deep, coursing under Sparks, and part of the Reno area.
The results of these tremors are minor, with no damage to the community. Sparks resident Jillian Russell says “I was just super scared because I woke up to my bed shaking, but when it ended I was able to go back to sleep like nothing had happened.” These shocks only lasted for a few minutes, and simply stirred the residents of the area with no lasting effects.
